Magical Housekeeping by Tess Whitehurst, a talented intuitive counselor, feng shui consultant and energy worker (and my personal friend!), offers many tips for creating a preserving your sacred space(s). My favorite chapter is Sacred Smoke & Aromas of Power, where she discusses the use of essential oils, incense, aromatherapy mists, candles and smudge sticks for invoking specific energies. I prefer diffused essential oils during Reiki sessions and smudge sticks a couple times a week for general space clearing. The result is always clear, pristine and powerful.
- White sage can be burned to raise the vibration of dense energies, absorb negativity, drive out disturbances and protect your sacred space.
- When burned, a rosemary smudge stick cleanses, protects, purifies and heals. It is perfect for any space where healing work is performed.
- Add a peppermint essential oil to water and use it to clean furniture, floorboards and walls. This will remove evil and negativity.
- In Magical Housekeeping, Tess Whitehurst writes:
"Desert sage also clears energy but in a different way. While white sage purifies by lifting vibrations and dissolving negativity, desert sage moves the vibrations around in a happy way so that bad vibes just naturally don't feel like hanging out."One ritual for space clearing is to clear each room one at a time. Starting from the center of the room, use a feather, handheld fan or your cupped hands to navigate smoke outward toward the edges of the room. Make a spiral pattern with the smoke and state your intent or affirmation like, "this space is pure and safe from negative energies and all harm." Fill the room with smoke and visualize negative energy moving out of the space as if by a vacuum. Close the door when finished and move on to the next room. When all rooms have been treated, give thanks to the guides and spirits who helped the process along. Wait 10-20 minutes and, starting with the first room, open the doors and windows.
I hope you take time to put some of these practices to good use. Happy house cleaning to you!
